Jesus…..does it ever stop? To say…..conclude that charter school are more effective than public schools is laughable. It is the equivalent of saying that 95% of all people who develop lung cancer drink coffee. Therefore, coffee causes lung cancer. Just a peak behind the data also shows that 95% of people who get lung cancer were regular smokers. We all know better!! We are all gutless to speak the obvious and point out the emperor has no clothes. It is not that the charter schools are any better. It is that the children who attend, come from a home environment that prioritizes education and all that goes with that….ensuring that homework is completed timely, consistently, and correctly. Monitoring class performance and behavior. Modeling the same in their own lives. I would bet willing to bet huge…huge…huge amounts of money that whatever failures in terms of performance that do exist in the charter schools that they come from single female head of households. It ain’t enuff to want it…u have to actively do what it takes. As i always tell my children, it is amazing what doing does. And those who relentlessly hide between “not everyone comes from an intact household, or a home with sufficient income….i say…so what? It’s values!! And guess how much values cost? Not a dime….they are free….help yourself to all you want and can stand….
The pro-charter Walton Family Foundation provided support for this “research”. Hmm, I wonder if this had any impact on the findings? Maybe the Mind Trust can use this “research” to get Bill Gates to donate another quarter-million to an upcoming IPS board election. I just love billionaire-led “research” and policymaking.
The research group at the UofA sounded like they were formed to find something positive to say about charters. I have to question their objectivity.
In addition the IPS data was cherry picked out of the thousands of other school systems in Indiana in rural areas where there are NO choices, but state dollars that would have gone to them, are being sent to Indianapolis Charters.
There is a heck of lot more data that says charters have a bad effect, with poor educational outcomes because there is NO accountability, less money for public schools, so lower outcomes there.
It amounts to a sneaky way to do union busting at public schools, while privatizing a government function.
Do a little research before you reprint news about one seemingly positive result.
Parents aren’t being forced to send their children to Charter Schools. They feel their children are receiving a better education or maybe it is that the environment is just better for learning. Either way. they are open to everyone so why critisize something that appears to be working for many of our kids.
What’s wrong with a little more reading, writing, and arithmetic and a lot less of why Susie has two mommies?
