Pardon my moment of schadenfreude, but I’ve spent months begging for John Jacob to get redistricted. So, thank you Indiana GOP for taking care of this problem.
Jacob’s remarks in this article are yet another example of his unsuitability for elected office… because he is apparently clueless as to how politics works.
The GOP didn’t want Jacob to win his primary election and didn’t support him in the general election. With his gerrymandered district, he won anyway despite anti-Catholic and anti-Muslim remarks surfacing before the election. Heck, there was some question about him being in allowed in the Republican caucus IIRC.
So Jacob plows ahead being exactly what Republicans were afraid of for two years and acts shocked he got redistricted. What exactly did he think was going to happen? If you’re invited to a party at someone’s house, someone who you already have a frosty relationship with, and you start being a rude guest the moment you walk in the door, can you really feign shock or disgust when you’re asked to leave?
The solution for Jacob is very simple – run as an independent if the Republican Party doesn’t want him around. Then we all will really find out if people voted for him due to his views as he thinks in the case.
Good riddance. Send the Neanderthal back to his cave.
Huston’s arguments are laughable. Yes, 93 is now a single county but 57, 60 and 47 are now comprised of portions of three counties each including a portion of Johnson County’s White River township and Center Grove school district. White River township – a suburban population area – was unnecessarily split into these 3 districts. Repubs got their revenge.
Of course they’re laughable – that’s how they pack districts and ensure a Republican supermajority. Huston’s own district is a prime example of gerrymandering.

No one is going to be happy with legislative redistricting. With Mr. Jacob’s record, he should move to a more favorable district. We need more Conservative Legislators like him; not more who only make decisions based upon opinion polls. We have way too many do nothing Legislators, Senators, & Representatives. John Jacob proposed eliminating all state income taxes.
As an amendment to another bill. An amendment.
He also had no explanation of either what spending he wanted to cut or what alternative revenue sources he was proposing to make the budget balance.
Stunts like these are not the work of true conservatives or serious legislators. They are cranks who should go back to the sidewalks with their bullhorns. Maybe the biggest reason John Jacob accomplished nothing in the Legislature was looking back at John Jacob in the bathroom mirror every morning.
Joe B, then the Party should offer an alternative and support that candidate in the primary. Solving the problem by dividing White River Township into 3 districts is not the next solution.

I am sure they looked at what they had to do to offer an alternative candidate. They felt their best option was to draw a district so Cindy Kirchhofer could run. I am curious as to why they didn’t give Dollyne Sherman another shot. She was the candidate the caucus picked to replace David Frizzell when he retired, and I’d heard they didn’t help her in the 2020 primary because they thought Jacob had no shot.
As someone who lives in both the current and new district 93, I am elated. I might be less so come the general election, but I can guarantee you I am voting for Kirchhofer in the primary. Jacob is a menace.
WRT was collateral damage. They vote so reliably Republican that they get used to ensure that other districts are won by Republicans. And until the citizens of WRT decide to look out for their best interests, they’re going to continue to get used. Given they fought incorporation a few years ago, I wouldn’t hold your breath. They have no political power, their tax base has been parsed off to Bargersville and Greenwood, and their roads are going to be awful when all those subdivisions in unincorporated Johnson County start falling apart over the next 20 years. You think the Johnson County Council or the County Commissioners care to help them? Heck no. Move to WRT in a new house for the Center Grove schools, then get out of dodge before the entire pyramid scheme collapses.
Steven, why are conservative legislators the answer to a “do-nothing” legislature? Perhaps conservatives (and liberals) who push a selfish agenda based on a very black & white, and narrow ideology are the problem? Hyper-partisanship is killing decorum and diplomacy in this country. Perhaps the answer is to work together – I think the label here (gasp) is “moderate.” Sadly, “do-nothing” will continue as long as people like Mr. Jacob put his personal beliefs ahead of a big-picture approach and display a willingness to (another gasp) compromise.

Jacob is a fascinating train wreck. He has a nonexistent resume and I’m pretty sure the $29k he makes with this part time job is his career peak. He has no clue how government actually works, and is solely focused on building his personal brand on social media. The last paragraph about campaign promises kept is hilarious. I wonder how many people in District 93 that voted for him are happy with his representation? My guess is a couple hundred max.

The good news is that they drew Lucas against another legislator, Steven Davisson. The bad news is Davisson died of cancer last month after missing most of the 2021 session. A caucus will pick Davisson’s replacement but it remains to be seen if they choose someone who can run against Lucas with the new maps.
My gut tells me they drew the maps knowing Davisson wasn’t going to make it and Lucas is their preferred candidate. But who they pick to replace Davisson would be telling. I think Lucas is obnoxious but he’s within the realm of what they are willing to deal with. Jacob and Nisly, not so much.
